Welcome to Parent P.R.E.P.

(Pre-School Readiness and Education Program)

Program Description
The Parent P.R.E.P. (Pre-School Readiness and Education Program) is a FREE program in Utah County funded by Autism Speaks and the Hurst Wood Education Foundation that aims to support parents of children with ASD, Developmental Delays, and other similar disorders by providing intensive, hands-on training to assist parents in meeting their child's individual, educational, and social needs.

Parents are eligible for one hour sessions held twice weekly for six weeks at the program site. parents also benefit from a home visit addressing the needs of both the parent and child.

Parents will receive important infomration, training rsources, and individualized support to suppor thteir child in achieving a seamless transition into an appropriate educaitonal or therapeutic program.

Program Details
Parent P.R.E.P. provides training, home visits, and on-site coaching to support parents in learning how to determine their child's needs, and to fill those needs in a variety of ways.

Weeks 1 and 2 are designed to provide training on several topics for parents, including:
*Autism Spectrum Disorders and similar Developmental Disorders
*Sensory and communication challenges
*Behavioral challenges
*Models and approaches for therapy/intervention

Week 3 includes an hour-long home visit to address current parent concerns and questions, and to determine any of the child's special needs requiring additional attention or parent training.

Week 4 and 5 are on-site visits. Parent preferences, child needs, and staff flexibility allow for several options of individualized trainings at this point in the program.
*One-on-one sessions with the child, parent(s), and P.R.E.P. staff.
*Peer dyads or groups to focus on specific social challenges and skill development.
*Session time with siblings or other family members according to the needs/desires of the family.

Week 6 involves training on future therapeutic options and decisions, including:
*Review of P.R.E.P. training
*Creating an individualized approach for the child
*IEP orientation and training
*Visiting a school setting
*Enabling parents as they continue to address their child's needs and access further community and educational resources.

Program Materials
Each parent will receive multimedia training tutorials, as well as handouts targeted at current and potential concerns and challenges. All training materials and tutorials will also be available online for future use. Training tutorials may include topics such as:

*Understanding Motor and Sensory Processing
*Addressing Communication Challenges
*Addressing Behavioral Challenges
*Models, Perspective and Approaches in Working with Your Child
*Creating an Individualize Approach
*IEPs and Educational Training
*Finding the Right Resources for Your Child

*DIR "Tools of the Trade"
*DIR in the School Setting
